Alpha;; Male leader of the pack, mate to the alphess. Equal rank to the alphess, although they may defer to her, it depends on the character’s personality. Audition or Challenge ONLY.

*Heir;; Pup chosen from a litter by the alphas to inherit one of their positions when of age, which is around three years. OPTIONAL, decided by alphas ONLY.
*Sub-Alpha;; Female or male appointed directly by the alphas to be their advisor and second-in-command. If the Alphas die and the heir is not of age, the sub-alpha assumes command. The sub-alpha also leads the pack if the alpha must go away. OPTIONAL, appointed by alphas ONLY.
Beta;; Male, second highest rank (not counting sub-alpha since it is an optional position for alphas to appoint). Carries out tasks of the alphas, is usually a close friend. May command all lower ranks. Third in line to lead the pack after sub-alpha and heir, steps in for the heir if the heir is not of age. May or may not be mate to the betess, equal rank with betess. Appointed by alphas or staff.

Captain;; Male or Female. Has command of Sentinels, Spies and Warriors, defers to the ranks above them. Usually a proven fighter with very good knowledge of strategy, may be trusted with command above even Betas or the Sub-Alpha during a battle if the Alpha believes they have superior knowledge and skills. Appointed by alphas or staff. May take on an apprentice at their own discretion – no one else may appoint the captain’s apprentice.
*Captain’s Apprentice;; A youth taken on by the delta for training. Appointed by the delta. May succeed delta with approval of alphas, or go on to a different rank.
Healer;; Appointed by request, the healer only has command over apprentices and regular pack members. Defers to high ranks. Usually has a good knowledge of herbs and remedies. May take on an apprentice at their own discretion – no one else may appoint the healer’s apprentice.
*Healer’s Apprentice;; A youth taken on by the healer for training. Appointed by the healer. May succeed healer, or go on to a different rank.
**Sentinel;; Guard to the pack and alphas, these wolves are charged with keeping watch over the dens as well as patrolling borders. They are usually incredibly loyal individuals who are capable fighters. The sentinels are hand chosen from the youths and warriors by the delta, and are often the first line of defense should a pack come under attack.
**Soldier;; Soldier of the pack, under the command of the Alphas, Delta, and Sentinels. These wolves are usually capable fighters.
**Soldier's Apprentice;; Single or multiple youth selected by the delta for service. They train under the Sentinels and Warriors, and may even help in battle. Alpha’s children are also often made fighter apprentices as a part of their education. Once apprentices reach adulthood and complete their training, they may be made a Sentinel, Warrior, or Spy by the Delta, or given another rank by the Alphas.
**Spy;; Wolves who are selected by the Alphas to carry out reconnaissance missions undercover in order to gain information, attempt assassinations, or other cloak-and-dagger activities. These wolves are usually very skilled at acting, and are often plain in appearance as to not attract attention.
**Hunter;; Wolves entrusted with hunting for the pack and assisting the Warriors and Scouts with daily duties.
**Elders;; Wolves who have become old, but are still highly respected by the whole pack.
**Shaman/Story teller;; Wolf who is gifted with herbs, magic, and telling stories. May hold a higher rank or simply hold this one.
**Member;; General members of the pack who have not been given other ranks. May be asked to help hunt, scout, fight, or assist ranked members.
**Pup;; A wolf to young to hold any other rank yet.
**Omega;; Wolf who must obey all members of the pack except pups, usually given as a punishment for a crime or dishonorable act.
**Forsaken;; Lower than even Omega, a wolf who has been banished from their pack. Forsaken are often killed on sight if caught returning to their old packlands.
*Indicates a rank which may or may not be given out traditionally. **Indicates a general rank you may ask for in your character application, no audition or appointment needed. May also be assigned IC by appropriate pack leaders.
